Lunar New Year Album
Mediacorp has been producing annual albums for Chinese New Year since 2003, but 2019 marks the first time we are offering it in Blu-ray, with DTS:X technology made possible by our partnership with Sony Singapore.
The team in Mediacorp behind this project is the Audio Post team, which is also the team behind the music and sound effects on Mediacorp TV series, some of our local movies and even some of the movies produced regionally. We are able to do this because we own the most advanced audio suites in Singapore, as well as the only certified DTS:X and Auro 3D mixing stage in the region.
The limited-edition Blu-ray issue includes seven music videos enhanced by DTS:X audio capabilities, with the version for the original track “嘻嘻哈哈过新年” rendered in virtual reality. Scan a QR code in the accompanying lyrics booklet and you will be directed to a YouTube link simulating a three-dimensional soundscape.
Doreen Neo, Chief Content Officer, Mediacorp, said: “This annual endeavour exemplifies our company’s nimbleness in navigating a multi-platform mediascape, determination to develop engaging IP and commitment to commemorating our cherished cultural customs.”
Added Ms Neo: “We’re pleased that the Lunar New Year albums and plushies – the third since our rooster mascot ‘咕鸡咕鸡’ in 2017 and pair of puppies ‘阿狗狗’ and ‘阿美美’ in 2018 – have become covetable collector’s items. We hope that this year’s delightful ditties will amplify the ambience in households that celebrate Chinese New Year.”

Added Mr See: “We hope that our decision to capitalise on advanced audio tech this year for our 16th album will provide the perfect platform to present the catchy compositions conjured up by our squadron of sound designers and artistes.”
