On 17 May we had a media launch for SPOP Sing! at the Atrium at level 9 of Mediacorp Campus. SPOP Sing! is an initiative to showcase and curate local music compositions, heighten the awareness of Singapore music and discover the next voice which may put Singapore on the Mandopop map. The production team will conduct nationwide talent search aimed at discovering singing talents aged 13-25 and providing a springboard for them to become bona fide stars. Several rounds of audition will be held at selected institutions and public venues.
Egg-shaped karaoke capsule
The centrepiece of the audition are the 2 gigantic egg-shaped karaoke capsules as recording booths, which symbolise incubation and new beginnings. Individuals would step inside the capsules to perform a local composition of his/her choice. Senior Art Director, Tay Siu Whye, had to design and construct capsules from scratch. She faced many challenges as the whole sound and camera recording system and air-conditioning would have to be installed inside the capsule. During a capsule test, she realised that more lights have to be added inside the capsule and air con condensation has to be thought through so as not to wet the electrical wiring.

the first audition
Host by Lee Teng, Bonnie Loo and YES 933 DJ Gao Meigui, the first school audition was held at ITE College Central on 21 May. A total of 200 songs have been shortlisted for the auditions, These songs are favourite local composition sung by JJ Lin, Stefanie Sun, Tanya Chua, Jam Hsiao, Jolin Tsai, Jacky Cheung and many more.
